The First Lesson

Today we had our first ever dissertation lesson...

 NOTES

  • Produce a major piece of work
  • Any genre for any platform
  • Ideally multi platform like a website
  • TV, Film, Radio, Web, Digital medial
  • Contract of roles
  • Outline what role you're going to do so they know what to assess you on
  • Group work i.e film and TV need a website (including behind the scenes)
  • Will be given a supervisor that you must keep in touch with
  • Keep a blog or online diary which will help with your evaluation
  • Assessment 001 = 10%
    • Production of a detailed research and production plan and pitch for the project (all production stuff) done before christmas and in production after christmas
  • Assessment 002 = 50%
  • Assessment 003 = 40%
    • Reflect on your role in the production process in the production of an online blog or website. This tells who gets a first and who doesn't. Also a 2000 word essay on your engagement with the media industry and professional practices (such as placement activities and your engagement with practitioners and/or student media)
DEADLINES
  • 2-3 ideas 17th October
  • Assessed pitches 8th December
  • Project review 27th March
  • Project hand in of everything 8th May
  • Evaluation 22nd May

Role Change

At the beginning of production, I was going to be on the camera team and be the clapper loader as well as fill out camera report sheets and assist the camera operator. However, after weeks of speculation, I decided to change roles from a minor role, to a bigger role of script supervisor.  When I was first assigned my role, it was the only role I had ever done in any films I'd been on previously so I knew what I was doing. However, since then I have been script supervisor on other films and because it's dissertation I needed a bigger role to really show what I can do. The Road Screening

We had another screening today of The Road. This is a film I had seen before and liked the look and overall style and colour that it has. We took inspiration from both films we watched in the cinema over the past two days which was a good idea because it really helped everyone to understand the tone and direction that we wanted to go for with our film.
